Kaleb is an artist born in 1997 in Northern NSW, Australia.
Welcome to my website! Here I’ve uploaded a collection of my paintings, and am constantly uploading more as I continue squeezing out tubes of oil paint.
All my works are originals painted with Langridge professional oil paint. My still life paintings are done directly from life in one sitting alla prima (wet-on-wet) . Landscapes usually take two if they are larger. I dont like reworking bad paintings, I leave the canvas once completed and move onto a new painting without going back and fixing out mistakes to avoid overworking the piece. Learning in the process.
The paintings are relatively small. As I continue building a practice I plan to go larger and larger. There are some linen canvases I’ve stretched waiting patiently to be scribbled on. The linen I use is an extra-fine Italian oil primed linen. Oil primed linen allows the paint to sit above the surface retaining its form and vibrancy. The oil from the paint doesnt absorb into the primed surface as it would with other priming methods and is the traditional priming for oil paint. The archival quality of materials ensures longevity and vibrancy for generations to come.
The linen is glued with archival EVA onto masonite/gatorboard. The panels are cut by hand so there is variation in the cut. Do not be concerned :). The edges are hidden by the rebait of the framing you choose if it is unframed.
I use a limited palette of 5 colours, being White, Cadmium yellow PY35, Crimson, Ultramarine and Burnt Umber. Occasionally adding Phtalo blue and Pyrrole Red. You can mix 99.99% of natures colour with the first 5 colours mentioned. Check out This video to learn the basics of colour mixing if you are interested in learning how to paint. I hear transparent Red Oxide, yellow orche, raw umber and burnt Sienna are fantastic colours for artists aswell, and plan to mess around with them.
I Love thick paint, abstraction, realism and impressionism. Though my paintings are more tight than loose. While my artistic journey is rooted in realism and impressionism, I embrace the liberating dance between abstraction and precision, seeking to strike a delicate balance between the two in every brushstroke. Every painting is a new challenge and a dive into the unknown.
